Scotland is enjoying a rare, long summer, and all anyone can talk about is the warm weather!  IELLEN Projects Worker, Tracey Fenton recently met with a number of services delivering some fantastic programs, especially in career development. These include Skills Development Scotland (SDS), the national skills body.  SDS works with young people in schools, with permanent staff located within a school setting.  Curriculum is developed to include career and skills development from Year 9 – ensuring that all young people have an introduction to employability skills.  It also assists in guidance for subject selection.

SDS works closely with employers, training providers and curriculum developers.  SDS has made a contribution to a 40% reduction in youth unemployment levels in the past 3 years.  Tracey concludes “this program is definitely a step in the right direction”.
